Introducing my vintage buttons – sourced from an old, unused stock of buttons and buckles, most likely made in France.
This set of 6 vintage mock horn buttons, likely from the mid-20th century, includes four buttons measuring 32mm, one at 27mm, and one at 25mm. Each button showcases a beautifully domed top with a distinct rim that dips inward, creating depth and an eye-catching effect. The edges are smoothly rounded, giving the buttons a soft, polished finish. The mock horn material, possibly casein or another high-quality plastic, mimics the natural striations and grain of horn, ranging in rich brown tones with lighter streaks. Their sturdy four-hole construction ensures secure attachment, making them perfect for heavier garments such as coats, jackets, or blazers.
Highly desired by vintage enthusiasts these casein buttons for adding timeless character to outerwear and vintage-style projects.
And what is casein? Casein, from which galalith buttons are made, is technically a type of plastic but with natural origins. It's derived from milk protein, so while it's a manufactured material, it's not a synthetic plastic like acrylic or polyester. Casein is often classified as a semi-synthetic material, as it combines natural components with a chemical process to create the final product.
NOTE: please note that colours may slightly differ in reality due to variations in screen types and the effects of photography.
