Introducing my vintage buttons – sourced from an old, unused stock of buttons and buckles, most likely made in France.
This set of 2 galalith buttons, measuring 27mm in diameter, is made from casein, an early plastic derived from milk protein, known for its durability and smooth finish. The buttons feature a chocolate brown color with a classic four-hole design, offering a secure and practical attachment for various projects. With their domed shape and smooth edges, these retro buttons are perfect for vintage clothing restoration or adding a retro touch to new garments. Whether you're working on coats, jackets, or heavier fabrics, these buttons provide a timeless aesthetic.
And what is casein? Casein, from which galalith buttons are made, is technically a type of plastic but with natural origins. It's derived from milk protein, so while it's a manufactured material, it's not a synthetic plastic like acrylic or polyester. Casein is often classified as a semi-synthetic material, as it combines natural components with a chemical process to create the final product.
NOTE: please note that colours may slightly differ in reality due to variations in screen types and the effects of photography.
