Introducing my vintage buttons – sourced from an old, unused stock of buttons and buckles, most likely made in France.

This set of 4 vintage buttons feature a mock horn appearance, a style commonly crafted from galalith, also known as casein plastic. Each button measures 27mm in diameter with a flat, slightly curved shape with a smooth, polished surface. The color varies between warm beige, cream, and light brown tones, with subtle marbled streaks that mimic natural horn. The layered structure of the material is visible along the edges, adding depth to the design.

These buttons have two holes for sewing and are lightweight yet sturdy. Their neutral tones and classic shape make them suitable for coats, blazers, knitwear, historical garments, or vintage-inspired sewing projects.

And what is casein? Casein, from which galalith buttons are made, is technically a type of plastic but with natural origins. It's derived from milk protein, so while it's a manufactured material, it's not a synthetic plastic like acrylic or polyester. Casein is often classified as a semi-synthetic material, as it combines natural components with a chemical process to create the final product.
