Set of 7 Vintage Mock Horn Buttons Ø 29 mm Dome Shape Galalith Brown Casein

Introducing my vintage buttons – sourced from an old, unused stock of buttons and buckles, most likely made in France.

This set of 7 vintage buttons features a unique dome shape with a slightly indented center and angled sides. The buttons have a rounded square shape with soft edges, adding dimension and texture to any project. Each button has a classic two-hole design, with subtle variations that give the set a one-of-a-kind, handpicked feel.

The buttons display a beautiful marbled pattern in earthy brown tones, from deep chocolate to lighter caramel shades, creating a mock horn effect. Often crafted from galalith, also known as casein plastic, this eco-friendly material was popular from the early 1900s to the mid-20th century. Galalith is prized for its durability, versatility, and its ability to mimic natural materials like horn.

These buttons are perfect for vintage-inspired projects, from coats and cardigans to bags and even throw pillows. Their mock horn appearance and unique shape add a touch of organic, natural appeal to garment restoration, accessory crafting, or home décor projects.

And what is casein? Casein, from which galalith buttons are made, is technically a type of plastic but with natural origins. It's derived from milk protein, so while it's a manufactured material, it's not a synthetic plastic like acrylic or polyester. Casein is often classified as a semi-synthetic material, as it combines natural components with a chemical process to create the final product.
