Set of 6 Vintage Mock Horn Buttons – Brown Thick with Recessed Center

Introducing my vintage mock horn buttons – sourced from an old, unused stock of buttons and buckles, most likely made in France.

Set of 6 mock horn buttons with a thick, recessed center design. Four measure 27mm, and two are 21mm. Their dark brown base has subtle lighter streaks, resembling real horn. The deep recessed center and sturdy thickness give them a distinct look, making them suitable for coats, jackets, and historical garments.

Likely made of galalith, a casein plastic used in the early to mid-20th century for its durability and ability to mimic natural materials. These buttons have a sew-through shank back and show light signs of age. Sold as-is.

And what is casein? Casein, from which galalith buttons are made, is technically a type of plastic but with natural origins. It's derived from milk protein, so while it's a manufactured material, it's not a synthetic plastic like acrylic or polyester. Casein is often classified as a semi-synthetic material, as it combines natural components with a chemical process to create the final product.
