Introducing my vintage mock horn buttons – sourced from an old, unused stock of buttons and buckles, most likely made in France.

Set of 8 retro buttons in a rounded square shape, crafted from mock horn casein plastic. Six buttons measure 25mm, while two are slightly different at 24mm. The surface features a smooth, satin finish with natural brown and cream tones, mimicking the organic look of real horn. These vintage buttons have a flat profile with gently curved edges, making them suitable for coats, jackets, cardigans, or historical sewing projects. Some show subtle variations in tone, adding to their vintage appeal. In good condition with light signs of age.

And what is casein? Casein, from which galalith buttons are made, is technically a type of plastic but with natural origins. It's derived from milk protein, so while it's a manufactured material, it's not a synthetic plastic like acrylic or polyester. Casein is often classified as a semi-synthetic material, as it combines natural components with a chemical process to create the final product.
