Introducing my vintage buttons – sourced from an old, unused stock of buttons and buckles, most likely made in France or Belgium.

This set of three large retro buttons of 33mm features the classic look of mock horn, made from casein plastic to mimic the natural swirls and earthy tones of real horn. The deep, dark brown shades, combined with their substantial thickness, make them perfect for adding a refined, vintage touch to coats, jackets, or heavier garments. They have a distinctive shape with a slightly domed surface and gentle curves, with their two-hole design and smooth finish, these casein buttons are versatile and durable, ready to complement any sewing project.

And what is casein? Casein, from which galalith buttons are made, is technically a type of plastic but with natural origins. It's derived from milk protein, so while it's a manufactured material, it's not a synthetic plastic like acrylic or polyester. Casein is often classified as a semi-synthetic material, as it combines natural components with a chemical process to create the final product.
