Introducing my vintage buttons – sourced from an old, unused stock of buttons and buckles, most likely made in France.
These retro buttons are a set of 9, crafted from casein, an early plastic made from milk protein, widely used from the early 20th century for its durability and versatility. Each button measures 27 mm and features a thick profile with a recessed center and raised outer rim. The buttons are in light cream color, please note that two buttons show minor defects in the color, as seen in the pictures. Despite this, they remain highly functional and add authentic vintage character to your projects. The discoloration is a natural part of their aging process, highlighting their originality and age.
The sturdy four-hole construction provides secure attachment, making them suitable for heavier fabrics or coats. Ideal for adding a timeless and simple touch to vintage-inspired garments.
And what is casein? Casein, from which galalith buttons are made, is technically a type of plastic but with natural origins. It's derived from milk protein, so while it's a manufactured material, it's not a synthetic plastic like acrylic or polyester. Casein is often classified as a semi-synthetic material, as it combines natural components with a chemical process to create the final product.
NOTE: please note that colours may slightly differ in reality due to variations in screen types and the effects of photography.
