Introducing my vintage button collection – sourced from an old, unused stock of buttons and buckles, likely from France or Belgium in the 1950s.
This set includes 3 vibrant red galalith buttons, each 27 mm in diameter. The buttons have a classic round shape, but a rim design creates a subtle dipped square effect, giving them added depth and character. With a four-hole design, these retro buttons are versatile for various sewing projects. Galalith, also known as casein plastic, was popular from the early 1900s to the mid-20th century and is prized for its durability and unique feel, derived from milk protein.
Highly desired for vintage enthusiasts, these buttons' bright color make them ideal for projects that need a pop of color and a touch of vintage flair.
And what is casein? Casein, from which galalith buttons are made, is technically a type of plastic but with natural origins. It's derived from milk protein, so while it?s a manufactured material, it's not a synthetic plastic like acrylic or polyester. Casein is often classified as a semi-synthetic material, as it combines natural components with a chemical process to create the final product.
NOTE: please note that colours may slightly differ in reality due to variations in screen types and the effects of photography.
