Antique handmade religious lace border, probably dating from the early 20th century.

A very long piece featuring repeating crosses, grape bunches and vine leaves, worked with raised embroidery over an open net ground. The lace combines several decorative stitches and is finished with a shaped lower edge and a narrow fabric heading.

The grapes and crosses are traditional Christian symbols associated with the Eucharist, suggesting this piece was originally made for altar or church use.
