Introducing my vintage mock horn buttons – sourced from an old, unused stock of buttons and buckles, most likely made in France.

Set of 9 buttons featuring a semi-square shape with a rim and a recessed center. Each button measures 22mm and has a mock horn appearance, a look often crafted from galalith, also known as casein plastic. This material was widely used from the early 20th century for its durability and resemblance to natural horn.

The buttons vary in brown tones, from dark to lighter horn-like swirls. Designed with two holes, they are suitable for coats, jackets, knitwear, historical garments, or vintage-style tailoring.

Condition varies slightly among the buttons, with some having more pronounced aging marks.

Highly desired by vintage enthusiasts, the mock horn effect adds an organic, natural appeal to coats, cardigans, bags, and even throw pillows. These casein buttons are perfect for garment restoration, crafting unique accessories, or adding character to home décor projects.

And what is casein? Casein, from which galalith buttons are made, is technically a type of plastic but with natural origins. It's derived from milk protein, so while it's a manufactured material, it's not a synthetic plastic like acrylic or polyester. Casein is often classified as a semi-synthetic material, as it combines natural components with a chemical process to create the final product.

NOTE: please note that colours may slightly differ in reality due to variations in screen types and the effects of photography.
