This antique handmade filet lace panel was made in Italy in the early 20th century, possibly in Sicily. It is worked on a hand-knotted net ground with hand-darned fillings and substantial raised cord embroidery that creates a strong sculptural relief throughout the design.

The piece combines traditional Italian filet lace techniques, also known as lacis, with bold raised decorative motifs worked directly into the handmade net. The irregular mesh, hand-darned sections, wrapped cord outlines, and dimensional embroidery clearly show entirely hand-worked construction.

The design features symmetrical floral and geometric motifs arranged across the length of the panel. The substantial raised embroidery gives the lace exceptional texture and depth, making it a remarkable example of antique Italian textile craftsmanship.
