This is a set of two round linen doilies, also named as linen mats or plate mats, each measuring 21 cm in diameter. Made from antique quality linen, each placemat features a solid fabric center (cream color) framed by an openwork border of handmade bobbin lace (ecru color). The lace border has a geometric, grid-like pattern that adds structure and contrast to the plain center. They were made in the early part of the 20th century in the traditional bobbin lace-making region of Le Puy-en-Velay, Haute-Loire, France.
