Introducing my vintage buttons – sourced from an old, unused stock of buttons and buckles, most likely made in France or Belgium.
This set of 2 large 36mm casein buttons comes in a very dark brown color, almost black, with a recessed center and a wide outer rim. The buttons feature four small holes for secure attachment, perfect for heavy garments like coats, jackets, or even bags. The buttons appear to be made from casein and their smooth, solid construction ensures durability, making them an ideal choice for both functional and decorative use. Despite their dark appearance, the subtle brown tones add a unique charm, perfect for vintage or retro-inspired clothing projects. Whether you're a collector or looking to add a touch of character to your outerwear, these large retro buttons will complement your designs beautifully.
And what is casein? Casein, from which galalith buttons are made, is technically a type of plastic but with natural origins. It's derived from milk protein, so while it's a manufactured material, it's not a synthetic plastic like acrylic or polyester. Casein is often classified as a semi-synthetic material, as it combines natural components with a chemical process to create the final product.
NOTE: please note that colours may slightly differ in reality due to variations in screen types and the effects of photography.
